Arthritis formly called degenerative joint disease is not one didease but a group of diseases which cause inflammation, pain and limited joint movement. In joint with osteoarthritis arthritis, the cartilage that covers and cusions the ends of the bones degenerates allowing bones to rub together. When you firstn get arthritis your usually prescribed painkillers such as Tylenol or non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) or Aspirin. These work ok for pain for a while but they only cover up the symptoms while the problem gets worse. These drugs can have side effects ranging from minor to severe. There is some evidence to suggest that some of these pain killers may make your problem even worse.
After many years of covering up the pain with both over the counter drugs and if the pain is especially bad possibly even steroid injections (such as cortisone) or the use of addiction forming opiates the disease becomes more severe and you finally have to see a surgeon to replace your hips or knees with artificial ones. With any surgery there is always the risk of death or severe complications. Surgery is painful, expensive and not necessarily permanent. It eventually may need to be done again.
Instead of simply dulling the pain with drugs or having expensive and dangerous surgery you can take control of your pain and possibly curing the symptoms of osteoarthritis. It started in Europe and Asia but now many doctors in the US are using this approach also. So what is this magical remedy?
